Dan Laffoley, PhD

Vice Chair- Marine, IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas

Dan currently divides his time 50:50 between two roles: Vice Chair-Marine for IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) and as Marine Principal Specialist for the Chief Scientist’s Team at Natural England. WCPA is the largest worldwide network of protected area managers and specialists. Dan was elected as Vice Chair in 2006 and led development of a strategic Global Agenda and business plan in 2008. As Marine Principal Specialist in the Chief Scientist’s Team of Natural England, he acts as an internal and external “champion” for marine conservation issues and provides thought leadership across Natural England on such issues. Dan received his PhD in marine ecology at the University of Exeter.
